The functionality of Revit MEP is not enough to perform required calculations for the projects we’re working on right now. The MEP calculations involve many different calculations with a various level of difficulty. The complexity of MEP calculations problem does not allow the development of a general model that covers all possible solutions. Our company has faced an issue with performing MEP calculations. We have compared 4 different software products for MEP calculations: DDS CAD, MagiCAD, Solar Computers and liNear. While “simple” calculations, like heating and cooling loads or even U-value may be performed just within Revit, the more complex ones, like transient thermal response of buildings or sound level calculation for duct systems require additional piece of software, which, of course, ideally should be connected to or integrated into Revit. The following questions have arisen: How reliable is this software? Is it related to certain international or local standards? Is it integrated into Revit?
MAGICAD FOR REVIT MEP MANUAL
In BPS International GmbH we were interested in specialized software that would substitute manual calculations.

In a contemporary world of technologies some companies still prefer “old approach” by performing MEP calculations manually, solving equations by hand. MEP calculations are required in order to achieve maximum efficiency of the building in terms of space distribution, energy consumption, waste water treatment etc. Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing calculations are extremely important during the design of the new engineering systems of the building.
